Marion Medical Mission

What do you do when you see poverty and suffering in the world? Do you wish you could do something to help, but think there’s no way you could make a difference in the face of such huge problems?

Sometime in 2001, God started nudging me to go to Africa with an organization called Marion Medical Mission. In September of that year, I went to Malawi, Africa. I drove a four-wheel drive, stick-shift truck for the first time in my life in back country Africa to get to dozens of villages where we were installing shallow wells. I helped out in the schools, spent a day with a mobile health clinic, and baptized 120 people in one worship service. And that began my association with Marion Medical Mission. I went back two more times, helped raise money to build a library for an elementary school, and I’m now on the Board of Directors.

When I discovered this card program, I thought of Marion Medical Mission immediately. When someone donates $350 for a well, we take a picture of that well and send it to them on a card. With this card program, you can upload digital photographs, put them on a card, add a personal message, and the company will print the card, stuff it in an envelope, and mail it. Much easier than printing and mailing all those cards ourselves.

The only concern Tom Logan, President of MMM, had was that the cards look too good. Since 100% of donations to MMM go to their intended purpose, Tom didn’t want people to think that we were spending their donations on fancy cards. So he made me put “Card donated by Rev. Suzanne Gorhau” on them.

25th Anniversary of Marion Medical Mission. Over 10,000 shallow wells installed.

Can we make a difference in the world? You bet we can. Even $5 can make a huge difference. If you’d like to learn more, visit the website at Marion Medical Mission. Or just ask me. I love to talk about MMM. And cards.
